First Bramor Field Outing

 Week 5 Bramor Field Outing

Introduction

The First Field Outing this semester with the Bramor PPX platform was an introduction to using the software in a real scenario. Because this platform is a fixed wing aircraft, and there is no way to manually control certain aspects of flight, it was very important to set up failsafes in the event there were to be an issue during flight. In order to ensure a successful flight we followed the checklist step-by- step during setup and made sure the steps were done correctly and in order.

Field Outing
Our Class met at the North end of Martell Forest area, this is a large field west of Purdue's campus. There is a large open field including tall grasses and shrubs surrounded by a tree line and powerlines. Weather was recorded at 10 degrees Celsius with 10 miles of Visibility.

Our Flight operation was a very basic one in order to familiarize ourselves with the platform. We set a few waypoints as well as the takeoff, rally, and landing points for the flight. Our flight was only a few minutes long but we were able to see how the platform operated and what to expect in our next field outing.

Issues

During the mission there was only one recorded issue, and that was that the Bramor was not descending to the correct altitude when set to the rally point. We used the controls to manually override the altitude. Once this was complete we were able to send the Bramor to the landing point and deploy the parachute.
